In Dallas, Roof Rats and Norwegian Rats are the most common species of rats that need to be excluded from homes. Roof Rats are more arboreal in nature and are usually found in the attic of homes all across Dallas. Roof Rats have a very fitting name since they typically find their way into the attic from entry points on the roof of the home. Typically, roof rats compromise attic ventilation and/or chew through, or slide under, areas on the roof called roof returns. Roof returns, sometimes called eave areas, are areas where two levels of roof meet together. These areas are susceptible to roof rat intrusion due to the fact that roof rats can easily chew through roof returns in order to gain access straight into your attic.
